Call to Political Parties for a Political Commitment towards adoption of Right to Health Act and Healthy City initiative in Puducherry

Adopted March 8th, 2026.

In line with its conference resolution, PSF in coordination with Makkal Nalvazhvu Maiyyam (MNI) has put forward a set demands to all political parties. These broadly included the commitment to an inclusion of a Right to Health Act in their election manifestos. For realizing the right to healthcare in Puducherry, the appeal set our six areas for priority action:

  • Legal Recognition of access to healthcare as a justiciable right
  • Elimination of Out-of-Pocket Expenditure
  • Focused Action on Disease Burden
  • Comprehensive Elderly Care Framework
  • Strengthening Primary and Emergency Care
  • Accountability and Regulation

The overall principle was stated as “Health and Healthcare must not be treated as a market commodity. It is a fundamental human right. We call upon the Government of Puducherry to take immediate legislative and administrative action to ensure that no family falls into poverty due to medical expenses, that prevention is prioritized, and that universal health care becomes a reality for every resident.”

To amplify these demands, a press meet was organized, and the Forum has actively engaged with media houses to ensure wide public dissemination through newspapers and other platforms. The memorandum outlining these demands has also been submitted to all major political leaders, urging the inclusion of these demands in election manifestos.
