Pondicherry science forum (PSF) in collaboration with CSR projects of the Power Grid Corporation, Sedurapet, Pondicherry jointly with the State training of Pondicherry and the Forest Department of Puducherry organised a Workshop on “Exploring Biodiversity” at Mullaivanam, Department of Forest Campus from morning 9 AM to 12:30 PM on 13th July, 2026 (Monday) in a befitting manner.
This nature event saw a participation of 35 students and their escort teachers from 7 urban Govt. and Govt. aided schools.
Mr. S Murugavel, Vice President of Pondicherry Science Forum welcomed the gathering. Ms. A Hemavathi, Project Coordinator, PSF, started with the fundamentals of the program. Mrs. D Sankara Devi, Program Coordinator, explained the importance of urban forest in our life. Along with a nature walk, she explained the interactions between butterflies and plants. Nature enthusiasts Mr Kishore, French Institute, Pondicherry, guided the identification and the essentials of snake protection and ecological conservation. Towards the end, the students were shown the rescued animals.
In the midst of the chirping of birds from bushes and trees, butterflies were identified by the students. The resource person explained the various birds and animals at the convention centre of Department of Forest.
Along the morning trail for about two kilometres, cheerful viewing of nearly 40 butterfly species and some birds was carried out.
During the programme, resource persons Mr. S Sabari Nathan, Mr. S Murthy and Mr. Murugan organised the Science Communication activities of PSF. Mr. Marian Brito drew the ecofriendly cloth banner and extened his support to the program. Mr. Anand Astell documented the unique event with photos and videos in perfection. Pamplets of butterflies of Pondicherry were widely used by the participating children. The Chief Conservator of Forest cum Wildlife warden Dr. P Arulrajan, IFS explained all about the Importance of biodiversity around us, in the valedictory function . He also distributed certificates to the participants.
